We just came across this fascinating article published in the Harvard Business Review highlighting many of this issue that we encounter when supporting school leaders through our Leaders in Education Mentoring Program.
you can access the article here but our take aways are as follows:
- It is lonely at the top!
- Leaders need to constantly up their game and when embedded in the detail operations this is challenging to do,
- Leaders need someone who they can trust and who deeply understands their context with whom to share their concerns,
- Setting up a formal relationship is the only way To ensure that the leader does not feel That they abusing an informal mentor’s support,
- Organizations benefit enormously when their leaders are supported by a formal advisory program.
It comforting to know that the work we do here at Tomalin Consulting supporting school leaders is aligned with best practice in the corporate world.
